One thing to always remember as a volunteer: as much as there will be days where you feel useless and like your work isn't helping, but remember that the people really do appreciate it. I realized this when one day I ran into one of my students and her mother. The mother repeatedly told me how great it was that I was volunteering, paid for my matatu ride, and invited me over to her house later where she made food for me and the other volunteer I was teaching with. It's things like this that show that what you're doing is worth it :)
